Here’s a juicy way to jazz up a plain apron: Add a cheerful pair of cherries.
We’re wild about this appliqué pattern, which gives new meaning to the words “cherry on top.”
Here’s how to do it:
Step 1. Print the pattern here.
Step 2. Trace the cherry and leaf shapes, using the solid line for your interfacing and the dotted line for your fabric (we used two coordinates from Moda’s Chrysalis by Sanae).
Step 3. Cut out the shapes and arrange the interfacing pieces on the back of the fabric pieces. Use the manufacturer’s instructions to iron the interfacing pieces onto the backs of the fabric shapes.
Step 5. Arrange on apron and pin in place. Stitch with embroidery floss according to pattern.
Step 6. Draw stems on the apron with fabric chalk. Use a stem stitch to embroider the stems.
If you loved this cherry applique, you will also love our cherry embroidery included in our pattern Uptown Tops & Trousers (IJ821). The darling vintage cherry (and bird) designs shown on the little jumper below is the perfect addition to any project. Aren’t the giant hook & eye closures just the right accent to this garment?
