Seeking some fabulous fabric? Tablecloths have you covered.
That’s right. A simple table linen or runner – especially of the vintage variety – lends itself to a number of stylish sewing projects. Two of our patterns, the Bon Appetit Apron (IJ715) and Binding Time Apron (IJ860), can be made with tablecloths. Why? Tablecloths are typically soft and durable, bright and attractive – all of which makes for one appetizing apron.
Looking for a stitchworthy table covering? Inspect for holes or fading, both of which can continue to wear over time. Authentic vintage cloths usually measure 50 or 54 inches wide. Anything smaller may be a scrap of fabric, and anything larger might be a reproduction.

Thanks, Amy, for the clever & stylish idea to sew aprons from table cloths. I am in the process of hand-washing a vintage flour sack to sew an apron inspired by your book Vintage Notions!
These are the cutest aprons ever! I love them and think they are adorable. Can’t wait to try them!
