When our good friend Eileen Roche shared her new book – Machine Embroidery in 6 Easy Lessons – with us, we were so excited! Then she asked if we would like to be a stop on her blog tour & our answer was of course!
Dian, our resident in-house designer & machine embroidery expert, was the perfect choice to give this new book a look & let us know all the details! So Dian took it home & here is what she had to say:
I’ve been a machine embroiderer for over 10 years. I wasn’t sure I could learn anything new. I was wrong. Machine Embroidery in 6 Easy Lessons by Eileen Roche is great for beginners and experienced embroiderers alike.
The overall design of the book is very good. It spells out the steps to a successful embroidery that are clear and easy to follow. Photographs are plentiful and useful. The 12-Point Checklist and the 10 Favorite Time-Saving Habits are good for newbies and also good reminders for more experienced embroiderers.
I learned a new technique for embroidering multiple appliques in chapter 2 that will save me time in the future. I was intrigued by the tools at the back of the book. They are very inventive and useful. Instructions for using them are clear and well written. She gives multiples examples for using blue painters tape which is a good inexpensive tool.
I liked this book a lot. I think it is a good starter book for new machine embroidery enthusiasts and a good book for reminding the experienced enthusiast of the small things we might have forgotten. – Dian S. of Indygo Junction
Wow! It sounds like this is the perfect book for both experienced & new machine embroiderers! Great job, Eileen! So now….

I’ve just read the table of contents of this book—WOW. And if that is any indication of the help we will receive, WAHOO! When I bought my embroidery machine, I was full of “I can do its” . I was taught by an aunt that if you can find a book on the subject, read it and you can do it!. I’ve always followed that advice. And this book looks like one I definitely need to read. However, sometimes, there are some roadblocks in the way. I encountered one of them shortly after I got my machine and was not able to do much with it. I had taken the instructional classes from the shop where I originally purchased my machine. That gave loads of information and enthusiasm. But it was almost too much verbal info, you need to keep referring back to a book, with lots of pictures, guides, tips and more. I do believe this book will give that to me. My surgeries and treatment are in the past and I need to move forward. I was in the “just get well” mode – now I want to rejoin my “let’s see what this machine can do” mode and get back into the hobby that I had just started to love and enjoy. I especially want to try the project ideas that are presented — practice makes perfect – and I do need the practice.
Thanks for the great giveaway!! I love to win.
